Here you can see how a flame (at least a blue one) looks once vectorized. This used different colored elements rather than gradients or bitmap effects to achieve the look of the design while being in a clean (print friendly) vector format.

The original is a jpg of a picture taken of the logo, and then crudely cropped out. Since we are only vectorizing the logo with the firefighter hat and ax and other tool, what is around it doesn’t matter. This is another example of something vectorized from a picture taken. You could even take a picture of a billboard and have that vectorized. Not a bad idea…
